How to Set Up RSS - Your Step by Step Guide
Hi guys,
Our newsletter is going to be changing to an RSS feed starting next month to keep up with changing times and to make sure you get our latest news and updates as they happen! You will also receive a monthly email with a link to our Blog so you won't miss out on our news!
RSS is basically a tool that sits on your computer desktop which automatically updates news articles from people you subscribe to (such as Optymise), instead of receiving emails. It is up to you who you subscribe to and it is a really quick and convenient way to receive updates from people you want to hear about.
Optymise uses RSS to deliver articles to readers who are simply too busy to browse our website and dig up the stuff they are interested in. Sometimes we will use RSS to alert our clients of promotions or new tools we think could help boost their online marketing campaigns with us, or company news and events.
In order to subscribe to our RSS feed you will need two things - an RSS Reader (a programme you download that stores the news items you subscribe to) and the URL (website address) of the RSS feed that you wish to subscribe.
Here's how:
1.) Download an RSS Reader. We use FeedReader, so go to www.feedreader.com and download
2.) Once you have downloaded FeedReader, you will need to install the reader on your computer (follow its instructions).
3.) Next, you need to choose the Feed to which you want to subscribe. Go to our website www.optymise.co.nz, and in the top right hand corner of our Home Page you will see a button called RSS. Click on it, and it should take you into your FeedReader programme, and have put the Optymise RSS URL of the feed (it should read something like http://www.optymise.co.nz/rss22/feed.ashx) under Add Feed, and click OK.
This is all you need to do to subscribe to a websites RSS feed.
Most websites have a little icon that you can click on to subscribe to their RSS; it will look something like this:

4.) FeedReader should now have collected the RSS feed and be displaying the news headline and summaries from the Optymise website.
5.) Your FeedReader will automatically check subscribed websites for updates; just remember to open up your FeedReader on startup!
6.) Subscribe to some other feeds that interest you! Here are some I love:
Stuff.co.nz RSS - click on the Feed you want to hear about
NZ Herald RSS - select the categories you would like to subscribe to, and then copy the URL into FeedReader (File, New, Feed, paste in URL under Add Feed, click OK)
Seek RSS Browse into any category, and to the right hand side there is an option to Send job feeds like this (RSS), copy and paste the feed URL into FeedReader
TV3 RSS - get the latest TV3 news as it happens
TradeMe RSS - get the latest TradeMe news
C4 TV RSS
Lastly... have fun!
