FAQs - Web Design & Development
1. How do I go about developing a search-engine friendly wesbite?
The basic principle behind search engine optimization and web site marketing is ensuring that a website is found or seen by internet users looking for the information, services and products offered by a particular website. No matter how effective the web marketing strategy, if a website is not developed for search-engine friendly specifications in mind, it's not going to be as effective as it should be for a business.
Optymise has developed some 'Best Practice' guidelines that offer some thoughts on the issues that should be considered when developing a search-engine friendly website or when making an existing website more search engine friendly. These guidelines are not exhaustive, but offer you a useful starting point.
When you sign-up for a search marketing campaign with us, your web developers may be eligible to receive a free copy. Alternatively, start with having us do your website design and development and get yourself a marketable website package.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Non-compliance to these guidelines does NOT mean that a website cannot be made search-engine friendly, but it can mean a site suffers from the following disadvantages:
- Time delay over technical issues
- Uncertain indexability
- Reduced search engines' preference

Our Site Performance Review looks at search engine compatibility issues for a website such as navigation, indexability and the technology used to build the website. It also finds out what a site's current ranking situation is on the major search engines, Google, Yahoo! and MSN and key directories.

4. What dot extension should I choose for my domain?
Should you choose .co.nz, .biz, .net or a .com extension for your domain name? Well, we advise you to consider the market that you will be targeting with your website.
If you are concentrating on a local (ie national market) such as New Zealand then a .co.nz works well. If you are focusing your efforts, or will be focusing future efforts on the global market, then we suggest using a .com extension.
Further advice can be provided at consultation.
